The Demoni ran at Butter who stood her ground, bracing herself for impact. She planted her boots into the ground as the taller, stronger intruder crashed into her. Grabbing Butter's dress, the demon cat slammed her into the tree, causing a shower of leaves to fall over them as some birds squawked in annoyance, fleeing from their nests. Butter's lips curved up, baring her teeth as she puffed out her tail in animosity. She extended her claws and raised her arm, slicing across the Demoni's shoulder as a yelp escaped the demon cats' lips. Butter seized this opportunity, using the tree for leverage as she kicked her foot out and slammed it into the Demoni's stomach, flinging her into the dirt. The Demoni let out a hiss before bolting upwards and sprinting at Butter. Butter's cat-like instincts took over as the flame point jumped into the air right over the demon cat, whose momentum resulted in slamming face-first into the tree.
Butter summersaulted and landed gracefully on her feet as the Demoni turned around, recovering from her impact. The intruder's ears laid down flat touching her head, her anger evident. She snarled, causing saliva to shoot out of her mouth. Butter recoiled for a second then guarded herself, not wanting the demon cat to take advantage of her fear. That was a key factor in determining the results of this battle.
The intruder's tail now puffed up, flicking back and forth in anger. The black demon horns on her head began to acquire a strange red aura. Butter brushed these things off, knowing she had to win this fight for her territory--and most importantly--her brother.
The Demoni ran towards Butter, her face still red from the impact with the tree. Butter jolted to the side and almost lost her balance, but managed to move her tail just in time so it touched the ground, stabilizing her quivering muscles.
The demon cat took advantage of this hesitation, and all Butter saw was her short blue skirt and black stockings before a foot collided with her face. Butter immediately let out a painful howl as she flew backwards onto the ground. She rubbed her face with her hands, lifting her gaze just in time to see the Demoni looking down at her. Butter lowered her glance, trying to think of something before--her thoughts were interrupted as she saw her brother jump onto the Demoni's back. He wrapped his legs around her waist and clawed at her ears, yanking and pulling on them. However, Scotch, the smaller of the twins, looked exceptionally small compared to the almost grown demon cat, and it showed. She growled and swiped her nails towards Scotch, missing. So the Demoni rolled onto the ground, pushing all of her body weight onto the male flame point.
Butter cried out to him, "Scotch!" she yelled, pouncing onto the demon cat, pulling her tail, trying anything to drag her off of her brother. The Demoni howled as her tail was yanked, all while Butter kept her eyes on her brother. His knees were scraped up, but other than that he was unharmed.
Butter growled, a low resonating sound, her anger apparent in her snarl. No one harmed her brother and got away with it. Butter leapt onto the demon cats back, the maneuver quickly backfiring as the Demoni sensed her movement and jumped out of the way. Butter fell forward, allowing the Demoni time to grab her tail. Scotch sprung up and let out a long hiss, spiting his anger into the demon cat's face. He pounced on her again, but was, once again, easily thrown off.
Butter was immobilized, her tail far too sensitive to just yank out of her opponent's grip. Butter rolled to her side exposing her stomach, a sign of submission, but the Demoni did not acknowledge this surrender. She was far too aggravated from the injuries sustained over the course of their battle. Butter was completely at the mercy of the intruder, and the Demoni intended to take full advantage of that fact. She took a tighter hold of Butter's tail and started dragging her towards the river, Butter yelping in pain.
Scotch cringed as he watched the Demoni overpowering his sister. After turning away and taking a deep breath for courage, he turned towards the struggle and ran towards the aggressor from behind.
The Demoni laughed confidently, flinging Butter by her tail into the frigid water of the river. Butter let out a shriek and tried to escape from the liquid, but the Demoni held her down within the frozen expanse.
"What? The little kitten doesn't like to get wet?" The Demoni's ears twitched to the side as she moved her body to the left, just in time to avoid a tackle from Scotch, who landed face first into the water.
The demon cat snickered, "You two are pathetic excuses for a rare breed." She then licked her lips, letting go of Butter only to raise her fingers to her mouth, causing a bright crimson aura to emanate from her fingertips.
Butter held her breath as she tasted the metallic taste of her own blood, and the thought ran through her head that this cat was going to kill them off. She quickly rose up, but the older cat had already premeditated her move and swung her foot out, pushing Butter into the water once again.
Butter cursed and turned to look at Scotch, "Brother, escape while you can, please! Go get the master!"
However, Scotch was frozen; a look of horror painted his face as his eyes were glued to the demon cat, watching the blood like aura grow stronger.
Butter reached out and clung to Scotch, looking up at the woman with pleading eyes, "Please, we will leave, just don't hurt us!" Yet the demon cat shook her head, the braids on either sides of her hair glistening in the sun and the black horns upon her head turning a light red. The kind of magic that this Demoni held was far more than Butter could have foreseen. The fact that her horns were changing to red signified her power, a way to puff out her chest to her opponents--ways to show that the amount of magic that she held could far exceed anything they could have guessed beforehand.
"It's too late for that." She whipped back her glowing hand and swung it forward. Just as it was about to come in contact with the twins, a silhouette of a figure came out from the shadow of the shining sun, tackling the Demoni to the floor.
Euteria was quiet as Butter held her eyes closed tight in fear, but the ringing of a bell echoing in her ears broke the silence. Slowly, she opened her eyes to see a bright pink cat girl--a Cottonese.
Butter swiftly got out of the frigid water and dragged her brother by pulling on his over-sized sleeves. As she sat him down she noticed his eyes transfixed in front of them, as she followed his gaze she saw the pink-haired cat fully for the first time, pinning the Demoni down to the ground.
The Demoni growled, letting out a snarl much more intimidating than Butter ever could have imagined, sending goose bumps along her arms and making her ears quiver in uneasiness. She licked her fingers and brushed the blood off her face as she watched the pink cat get thrown clear off the Demoni.
Scotch clung onto his sister and shrunk his face into her chest as the Cottonese was thrown, landing a mere foot away from them. She quickly stood up as Scotch turned his face to look at her, and the bottom of her puffy pink tail rested right in front of his face, touching the tip of Scotch's nose--the white cotton ball attached to the end of her tail made his nose itch as he tried to resist the urge to sneeze. Yet she smelled so sweet, he felt his face grow warm as her tail began swiping his face before she leapt towards the Demoni once again, tackling the woman to the ground.
"Stop this unprovoked viciousness! What have these two done to you to make you so enraged?!" the pink cat growled at the Demoni.
The demon cat extended her claws ripping the pink cat's bright blue dress, and then responded to her question.
"They need to learn the penalties for thinking that they can get away with saying and doing whatever they want. They have no idea how cold of a world this is and it's time to illustrate that to them."
The ears upon the pink cat moved side to side as she rebutted.
"I don't see how harming them physically is going to accomplish anything! Stop letting out your anger and resentment on them because you feel the world has wronged you!"
The Demoni hissed, "Who are you to tell me what I have been through, kitten? You are no older than they are!"
The pink cat nodded, the bell upon the rosy bow around her neck shimmered in the sun, glaring it's reflection into the demon cat's eyes.
"That may be true, but I am acting far more mature than you are right now. You shouldn't pick on people for their weaknesses because you have your own vulnerabilities."
The Demoni muttered, "Who are you anyways?"
The pink cat tilted one of her ears, retracting her claws back within her fingers.
"My name is Kokoro, who might you be?"
The demon cat rolled her eyes.
"Oh how charming, your owner named you a word meaning heart? How pathetic. My name is Iris if you have to know, and why do you feel the need to intervene in a conflict that is not your own? You should have stayed with your master."
Kokoro moved to the side, exposing the scared faces of Butter and Scotch.
"This is the reason. Look at the fear you caused them, are you not remorseful for causing such fear? You went too far and had to be stopped. I think however, the aspect you are more upset about is that you did not sense me at all. Now you can understand how they felt."
Iris rolled her eyes, but considered her behavior. Thinking back at what she had gone through the last couple days made her realize just how extreme her actions had been.
"I apologize for being so harsh on you two, I've been going through some rough times and I let it out on you... Though don't ever expect an apology from me again, these are words you will rarely hear come from my mouth." With that, the young Demoni fled from their midst and left them alone with the pink Cottonese.
Butter was surprised by how quickly the fight was over, but didn't have any time to consider the implications of what happened before Kokoro addressed her.
"I apologize for not stepping in sooner; I thought she wouldn't go that far. She can be rather cold at times, I am so very sorry."
Scotch was the one who spoke up now.
"Who was she? Do you know her?"
"I do. She was my master's property before he took me under his wing. He only just released her from her bells a couple days ago, so I have been following her around in case she tried to pull something like this." She leaned towards him and rubbed the top of his head, "I hope you two did not get hurt."
Butter responded, "We're fine, nothing a couple of hours won't heal... I was really amazed by how quickly you settled her down, but now that I know your relationship with her it makes more sense. Though if you don't mind me asking, why are you still owned by your master? Don't you also wish to be free? Aren't you envious of the Demoni that she is now permitted to wander Euteria?"
Scotch watched Kokoro as she talked with his sister, her white stockings clinging tightly to her shapely legs, making his face turn a passionate red. Before Kokoro could respond, a voice broke through the silence.
Butter turned her head around, flattening her ears as she moved around to Scotch and brushed his hair with her claws, putting it nicely into place. She swiftly turned to Kokoro, "My master is coming I have to go." It was evident to the Cottonese that the relationship between the twins and their master was not as good as her own.
"Understood." Kokoro fled off just in time, just as the twins looked over towards their master.
"Butter, darling, I was getting worried about you, I was getting lonely." A man's voice echoed, making Butter recoil and move her tail between her legs. Her heart began to thump in her ears as he appeared from within the shelter of the trees. His black hair was so dark that it made his light blue eyes look even brighter in the now setting sky.
Scotch's face erupted into a bright smile and a high pitched meow squeaked from his lips, "Master!" he yelled in delight and he ran towards the man and started purring. He rubbed his head against the master's leg as the human pet his head softly before moving towards Butter.
"My darling Butter," he leaned down and licked the blood that still trickled down her face from the scratch Iris caused, causing the hair on Butter's ears and tail to stand on end. "What happened?" he finished.
Butter put a fake smile upon her face, he was so close she could smell his breath, "Nothing happened master, I'm fine."
The human bent down closer and caressed his hand against her face along her scratch, his fingers glowing a soft blue. When his hand moved away her wounds were healed.
"Thank you master." She said bowing. Butter knew her master was not a normal human, but she had yet to find out his true self.
He grabbed Butter's hand, and kissing it he said, "It's quite alright you don't have to thank me, just show me your appreciation tonight when we get back home."
Butter sunk her shoulders down, a cold sweat starting.
"Yes sir, whatever you want." She looked over at Scotch and she wished she could tell him what their master was doing, that he was not a good person, but she couldn't bring herself to destroy the love he felt for their master.
